A Trial Lesson allows the recipient the chance to take hands on control of a helicopter, the ultimate flying machine, under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Ireland West Aviation have a complete range of vouchers for helicopter lessons, perfect for Christmas gifts, Birthdays, Anniversaries, a Valentine's Day surprise or any special occasion.
The non-refundable vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and may count towards your Private Pilots License should you decide that flying helicopters appeals to you. A typical trial lesson in an R22 has a preflight brief, a 20 minute flight in which you take the controls following a demonstration by an instructor and finish with a post flight debrief, all for €199. The lesson (20mins) can also be completed in a 4 seater R44 for €299. Flights can be booked 7 days a week subject to availability. On the day confirm your flight time by phone when we will give you directions to our offices. Your instructor will then meet you and give you a thorough brief dealing with safety and some basic helicopter theory of flight and explain how the controls work.
Feel free to bring a camera, sunglasses or any other personal equipment to make the flight as enjoyable as possible. Once on board with safety checks complete your flight instructor will talk you through the starting procedures, hover taxi the aircraft before departing for your trial flight.
Dual controls enable the instructor to transfer control of the aircraft to you and teach you how to execute some basic manoeuvres of helicopter flying. You will then be taken back to the airport where the instructor will demonstrate the versatility of a helicopter prior to landing. A short de-brief and the presentation of a certificate of achievement of a successful flight concludes the lesson.
Terms and conditions
Gift vouchers are valid for a period of twelve months, and are non-refundable. Flights are subject to aircraft availability and weather conditions being acceptable to the pilot in command on the day. Passengers are not permitted in the rear of the aircraft (R44) on a training flight. Vouchers will be dispatched on the day of purchase. The bearer is entitled to the time stated on the voucher i.e. rotor turning time, (from initial rotor engagement) once the rotors begin to turn under engine power.
