Ireland West Aviation is a helicopter flight training school based at Ireland West Airport, Knock, Co. Mayo.

Ireland West Aviation is an Irish Aviation Authority registered training facility and has been operational since Christmas 2008. We offer instruction in Robinson R22 and R44 helicopters to Private Pilot Licence standard at Ireland West Airport Knock. Vouchers for Introductory Trial Lessons are available from €199 upwards and 10 hour flight training packages are also available. Vouchers can be purchased online or by phoning Joe Lally on 086 3646155 and can then be collected or posted to you by return.

Helicopter students wish to get a pilots licence fly for business and pleasure reasons and we at Ireland West Aviation want to make it a challenging, exhilarating and rewarding experience. To begin with your best bet is to book a 20 minute (€199), 30 minute (€250) or 60 minute trial lesson (€399)* and experience taking control and flying the helicopter yourself before deciding to commit yourself further. *(prices inclusive of VAT).

The training could be done with a reasonable commitment in approx. 6-9 months or less assuming funds, free time, aptitude and importantly, weather are in your favour. Weather of course, is a major factor and the ability to be able to grasp any good weather opportunity to fly is bound to be an advantage. Most training slots are of 2 hour duration with a pre-flight briefing, about a 1 hour flight and then a post flight briefing. My advice would be to train with flights as close together as practicable to maintain consistency and minimize the possibility of skills learnt diminishing.  Ireland West Aviation will be open 7 days a week to take advantage of good weather opportunities and student schedules. Above all we want to make flying helicopters an enjoyable, safe and worthwhile experience for all students of Ireland West Aviation. If you require any further information please contact me on 086 3646155.
